An exciting opportunity to join our busy GIS Security team has become available!  We are recruiting for an Engineer Security Specialist, based in Leeds, West Yorkshire.  This is a Full time position, on a Permanent contract. Candidates should have an excellent technical knowledge but also have a good understand of governance and compliance and other non-technical aspects of information security. The candidate will report to the UK based Network Manager so communication and confidence to work independently are key. The role is very diverse and an excellent opportunity for anybody who wants to get involved in all aspects of security.

The position is within a team who are responsible for Security Engineering across the IT function. Strategy, intelligence, design, build and support of all system are all part of this diverse role.

  • Ensure SLA's & operational KPI’s are met, working as necessary with internal and external support functions when major incidents occur

  • Ensure Root Cause Analysis and Service Improvement functions are performed for Application & Security services, by using a process of elimination through isolation, reduction of faults and using root cause analysis methodologies to obtain information about problems and outages to improve service and mitigate future problems

  • Assist with the development of a coherent, consistent and more effective Security infrastructure across the region and globally

  • Perform analysis of audit requirements and implement recommendations where required

  • Assist in maintaining and exercising Disaster Recovery procedures

  • Deploy effective IT security solutions for networks, systems and applications

  • Provide 2nd/3rd line support for distributed operational security infrastructure

  • Provide timely, quality estimates for any potential project work, carry out work to a high degree of quality and to agreed costs and timescales

  • Provide a central focus for Operational Security experience and expertise within the IT department, including co-ordinating support activities across wider IT teams


  • Evolving a consistent Network & Security approach regionally and globally

  • Maintaining the highest levels of systems availability

  • Maintaining and evolving excellent working relationships both internally and externally

  • Maintaining a high level of productivity and co-ordination in an environment where many activities are simultaneously taking place

  • Maintaining and evolving excellent working relationships both internally and externally

  • Maintaining and extending Network & Security support skills across a variety of platforms/technologies

  • Evolving more consistent processes and practices for Network & Security support globally


  • Minimum 5 years practical experience of Network & Security support (certification highly desirable).

  • 5 years practical experience of Checkpoint/Cisco ASA Firewalls, IDS Systems, Web Security and VPN technologies.

  • Strong Knowledge of Cisco Routing & Switching.

  • Good Knowledge of Coding Languages (Tcl, PowerShell, Bash).

  • Strong working knowledge of Security Gateways (Proxy Servers), IPS/IDS, F5 LTM/ APM/ASM/VPN/iRules, Cisco Router and Switch Technologies, Wireless Security & associated services.

  • Understanding of Security Standards and Principles.

  • Possess broad technical understanding and will need the ability to communicate well with colleagues in IT as well as end users and 3rd party suppliers.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels

  • Ability to prioritise own workload and manage time effectively according to Business needs.

  • Basic project management / co-ordination capabilities.

  • Other desirable skills include: Cisco technologies, Wireless Technology, Data Encryption, E-Commerce Web Stack Apps & DB, Analytical Metrics and Monitoring.

  • Understanding of PCI DSS Compliance.

  • Understanding of CIS Critical Security Controls.

  • Understanding of NIST Compliance.

  • Understanding of ISO 27001.

  • Understanding of Zero Trust Architecture.

  • Understanding of BeyondCorp Architecture.

  • CCNP or Equivalent Experience.

  • CCNP Security or Equivalent Experience.

  • F5 Certified Technology Specialist or Equivalent Experience.
